PNN News Desk, Lakshmipur:
Ahead of the upcoming election, two CCTV cameras were stolen from a polling station in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred at South Chiladi Government Primary School in Kushakhali Union.
According to school authorities, three CCTV cameras had been installed at the polling station for security purposes. After regular school hours on Thursday (January 29), teachers left, and the school remained closed for three days. On Monday (February 2), when teachers returned, they found two of the three cameras on the ground floor missing.
Acting Headteacher Mosammad Momtaz Begum said miscreants took advantage of the school being closed to steal the cameras. The matter was immediately reported to local authorities, and a written complaint was lodged at Sadar Police Station.
Political circles have also reacted. Advocate Hasibur Rahman Hasib, joint convener of BNP Lakshmipur district, said that removing CCTV cameras from polling stations can raise questions about the electoral environment. He stressed that these cameras play a crucial role in ensuring free and fair elections and that those involved may have suspicious motives.
Assistant Returning Officer and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Kathwaipru Marma confirmed that the administration is aware of the incident, a complaint has been filed, and necessary measures are being taken.
