Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) fired back immediately in response to firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Goainghat border area of Sylhet. The incident created brief tension in the border area, but the situation was later brought under control, BGB said.
This information was provided in a press release issued by Sylhet 48 BGB on Tuesday. The incident originally occurred on Monday afternoon in the Sonarhat border area.
According to BGB, BSF fired toward the Bangladesh side of the border in the afternoon. Considering the seriousness of the situation, BGB members quickly took defensive measures and returned fire. Due to the prompt and professional action of BGB, the situation quickly normalized.
No casualties or damage were reported. However, additional patrols and surveillance have been strengthened for security purposes in the border area.
BGB stated that it remains in a maximum alert position to counter any provocative activities on the border. The force maintains a responsible and firm stance to protect national border security and sovereignty.
Meanwhile, local residents near the border have been advised to remain alert. Through local representatives, BGB has urged people not to cross the border illegally or engage in any unauthorized activities.
