The Bangladesh Bank has announced a seven-day continuous holiday for all banks and financial institutions on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. However, to ensure normal transactions before Eid and payment of workers’ salaries and bonuses, banks will remain open for two specific days.
In a circular issued on Monday, the central bank said that to ensure smooth payment of salaries, bonuses, and other financial transactions for garment workers, all bank branches and sub-branches across the country will remain open on May 23 and 24 according to regular schedules.
After that, banks will remain closed for Eid holidays from May 25 to May 31. However, some industrial area branches will remain partially operational.
The Bangladesh Bank stated that branches located in industrial areas such as Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Valuka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram will operate in limited capacity on May 25 and 26.
These branches will be open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. However, customers will be able to conduct transactions from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
In addition, to keep import-export activities running, bank branches, sub-branches, and booths located in sea ports, land ports, and airports will remain partially open during the Eid holidays.
However, all banking activities will remain completely closed on Eid day.
The circular also stated that officers and employees working during the holiday period will receive additional allowances and benefits according to existing rules.
