The second day of the three‑day Bangladesh‑United States tariff negotiations has concluded. The discussions delved into the current and future commercial relations, policies, and prospects between the two countries. While the two sides reached consensus on several matters, a number of important issues remain unresolved.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, confirmed that the third day’s talks will begin today at 9 a.m. Washington local time.
A key highlight of the second day was an exclusive meeting between Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamison Greer. In a cordial atmosphere, the minister‑level figure from the Trump administration discussed tariff policy, bilateral trade, and issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the Trade Adviser outlined Bangladesh’s economic progress, export capacity, and policy stance. He stated that Bangladesh is committed not only to increasing exports to the United States but also to boosting imports—a process that has already begun.
The Bangladeshi side called for fairness in tariff policy and a competitive environment conducive to its interests. Jamison Greer assured Bangladesh of possible cooperation, noting that the United States views Bangladesh’s commercial potential in South Asia with great importance.
