Mongla Port’s Net Profit Rises by Tk 41 Crore, Surpasses Targets in Cargo Handling and Vessel Arrivals

Mongla Port has achieved remarkable success in the outgoing fiscal year 2024–25. The port’s net profit stood at Tk 62.10 crore, exceeding its target of Tk 20.46 crore by Tk 41.64 crore. As a result, the port's revenue income increased by 2.83%.

These figures were revealed on Thursday during a press briefing held at the Mongla Port Authority’s conference room.

Speakers at the briefing included Member (Finance) of the Mongla Port Authority Kazi Abed Hossain, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Chief Hydrographer Commander Russel Ahmed Khan, Director (Traffic) Md. Kamal Hossain, and Deputy Director (Board and Public Relations) Md. Makruzzaman.

It was noted that efficient use of limited resources, prompt cargo loading and unloading facilities, and the relentless efforts of port officials and workers have streamlined operations. As a result, the number of port users has increased, leading to higher revenue generation.

In FY 2024–25, the target for vessel arrivals at Mongla Port was 800, but 830 vessels actually arrived—3.75% more than the target. The cargo handling target was 8.88 million tonnes, while actual handling reached 10.41 million tonnes, surpassing the target by 1.53 million tonnes.

Container handling also exceeded expectations: the target was 20,000 TEUs, while the actual handling was 21,456 TEUs.

Revenue earnings also surpassed targets. Against a target of Tk 333.87 crore, the port earned Tk 343.33 crore, marking a 2.83% increase.

Kazi Abed Hossain stated, “There is no vessel congestion at Mongla Port. Special facilities are available for car importers. The port has 38 support vessels, including 7 container yards, tugboats, pilot boats, mooring boats, pilot dispatch boats, survey boats, and dredger units, enhancing its infrastructural capacity.”

Currently, various products are imported through Mongla Port, including food grains, fertilizers, vehicles, LPG, slag, soybean oil, fuel oil, wooden logs, coal, stones, steel pipes, and more.
