Bangladeshi Music Industry Mourns the Deaths of Selim Haider and Jens Summon

The music industry in Bangladesh has been overshadowed by grief within two days. On Thursday night, renowned guitarist Selim Haider passed away due to cancer. On Friday afternoon, popular singer Jens Summon also died.

A special connection existed between the two artists through the hit album Ekta Chador Hobe. Jens Summon sang the songs while Selim Haider played guitar, making their deaths a deep loss to the music community.

The album, released in 2002, was a landmark in the Bangla audio industry. Its title track, Ekta Chador Hobe, gained overnight popularity after airing on a BTV magazine show. Songs were sung by Jens Summon, music composed by Ithun Babu, and guitar played by Selim Haider.

Selim Haider was buried in Azimpur on Thursday night. Soon after, news of Jens Summon’s death emerged. Upon hearing the news, lyricist and composer Ithun Babu broke down in tears, telling Prothom Alo, “It’s impossible to accept losing two close people together. Ekta Chador Hobe album is part of Bangla audio industry history.”

Jens Summon felt severe chest pain and was taken to the National Heart Institute, where he passed away at 3:30 PM.

The deaths of these two prominent artists have deeply saddened music lovers across the country.
