A grand opening ceremony is being prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA is organizing separate opening events for the first time across the three host countries—the United States, Canada, and Mexico. One of the key attractions of this event will be Bangladeshi-American musician DJ Sanjoy.
On June 12, at SoFi Stadium, the United States Men’s National Football Team will begin their World Cup campaign against the Paraguay national football team. Before the match begins, an opening ceremony will take place where global stars Katy Perry and Lisa will perform. DJ Sanjoy will also share the same stage with them.
Expressing excitement about the event, Sanjoy said that as the son of an immigrant family, reaching the World Cup stage from a small studio is an extraordinary experience for him. He believes this is not only a personal achievement but also an inspiration for young people growing up between two cultures.
DJ Sanjoy has already gained recognition through his music across South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. International media have also described him as one of the prominent faces of South Asian electronic music.
On the same day, the Canada Men’s National Football Team will begin their World Cup journey in Toronto against the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. Performers at that opening ceremony will include Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara.
Meanwhile, on June 11 in Estadio, the Mexico national football team will begin their World Cup journey against the South Africa national football team. Various artists including Maná, Leandro Fernández, and Belinda will perform.
Additionally, artists such as J Balvin, Anitta, Danny Ocean, Eliane, and VZ Dream will participate in various World Cup events.
FIFA has stated that the opening ceremony will begin approximately 90 minutes before the match to bring spectators into the stadium early. The timing of ceremonies will vary depending on the host country
