In July of the 2025-26 fiscal year, Bangladesh repaid a total of $446.68 million to development partners. According to a report published by the Economic Relations Division (ERD), of this amount, $327.72 million was principal repayment and $118.96 million was paid as interest.
During the same period last year, the total repayment was $385.67 million, indicating an increase in repayments this year. However, interest payments slightly decreased.
Notably, during the same period, Bangladesh received $202.75 million from development partners, with new loan commitments amounting to $83.46 million.
Among the lenders, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided the largest share of $77.50 million, followed by the World Bank with $59.07 million, Japan $17.24 million, India $13.62 million, and other partners $35.33 million.
In the previous fiscal year, Bangladesh repaid a total of $4.086 billion in foreign loans, bringing the country’s total foreign debt to $74.34 billion, an increase of about 8% compared to the previous year.
The ERD also reported that in the 2024-25 fiscal year, Bangladesh signed new loan agreements worth $8.323 billion with development partners, which is lower than the previous year.
