Due to security concerns, Pakistan withdrew from the tournament, giving Bangladesh a chance to participate in the AHF Men’s Hockey Asia Cup. Early this morning, the Bangladesh hockey team left the country to compete in the event.

The tournament is set to begin on August 29 in Bihar, India. Bangladesh had not qualified directly for the Asia Cup after finishing third in the AHF Cup held in Indonesia this April. However, Pakistan’s withdrawal has opened the door for the Red-Green representatives this time.

The Bangladesh team underwent a 14-day preparation program in early August. Head coach Moshiur Rahman Biplob said, “The boys have given their best over the last 14 days. If they play according to their capabilities, they can definitely achieve something good.”

As part of their preparation, a practice match against Kazakhstan is scheduled for Wednesday. In the Asia Cup, Bangladesh is in Pool ‘B’, facing opponents Malaysia, South Korea, and Chinese Taipei.

Participating in the Asia Cup is a significant opportunity for Bangladesh to showcase their abilities and gain experience in an international-level competition.
