The T20 Asia Cup will begin in the United Arab Emirates next Tuesday. Bangladesh will face Hong Kong in their opening match on Thursday in Abu Dhabi. The team, led by Liton Das, completed last-minute preparations with a series victory against the Netherlands in Sylhet.
Bangladesh’s right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed has stated that the team is not just participating—they aim to win the Asia Cup. Speaking at an event in Keraniganj on Friday, he said, “Our goal is to become champions. We are not going just to participate.”
Bangladesh enters the tournament with confidence after winning three consecutive series. Following the tour of Sri Lanka, the Tigers won series at home against Pakistan and the Netherlands. Taskin, who has been performing consistently, has taken 12 wickets in his last four T20 matches.
In the group stage, Bangladesh will compete not only against Hong Kong but also against two strong teams, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Taskin said, “We’ve won three series in a row. If we maintain this momentum and everyone gives their best in the Asia Cup, we can achieve positive results.”
Speaking about his popularity, Taskin added, “I thank the Creator for giving me this opportunity. People love me, and I feel fortunate. This also increases my responsibility.”
