Celebrity duo Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are set to return to the stage together. They will appear in a new stage production of Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical “Sunday in the Park with George.” The announcement was made on social media on Wednesday.
The new production will be staged at London’s Barbican Centre in the summer of 2027. It will be directed by Marianne Elliott, with costume design by award-winning designer Tom Scutt.
On Wednesday morning, Grande and Bailey posted a photo together on Instagram, showing them seated in front of Georges Seurat’s famous painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.”
Painted between 1884 and 1886, this masterpiece inspired the Pulitzer Prize–winning musical “Sunday in the Park with George.” Reports indicate that Grande and Bailey will play the lead roles in this London revival.
The original production opened Off-Broadway in 1983, starring Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin, and moved to Broadway the following year.
In the caption of the Instagram post, Jonathan Bailey wrote, “It only has to be good,” a key line from the musical, reassuring audiences that Grande and Bailey will once again collaborate on the West End stage.
