Although it has long been believed in the technology sector that artificial intelligence (AI) would reduce the use of apps, a recent analysis shows a different picture. The global rate of new app launches is increasing rapidly, indicating new opportunities in the tech industry.
According to market analysis firm Appfigures, in the first quarter of 2026, new app releases on Apple App Store and Google Play Store increased by about 60 percent compared to the previous year. On the iOS App Store alone, growth was around 80 percent.
At the beginning of April, the same trend continued. During this period, new app launches more than doubled compared to the same period last year.
Technology analysts say the main reason for this growth is the availability of AI-based software tools. Many platforms now allow people with little programming knowledge to create apps easily.
Among app categories, mobile games remain at the top. However, productivity, utility, lifestyle, health, and fitness apps have also increased significantly.
Due to AI expansion, new computing platforms such as smart glasses and AI-powered devices are also being discussed. Companies like OpenAI are even working on new hardware development.
However, this rapid growth has created challenges such as app verification, quality control, and security concerns. Recently, fake and harmful apps have posed risks to users, forcing platforms to become stricter.
Experts say AI is not shrinking the app market but instead creating a new app revolution. However, ensuring security, quality control, and user trust is essential for sustainability.
