Teachers campaigning for the nationalization of MPO-registered educational institutions have accused Education Adviser Professor C R Abrar of following the same path as former Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and former State Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel. The allegation was made by Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, secretary of the coalition of teachers demanding nationalization, after meeting with the Education Adviser on Thursday (October 16).
Principal Azizi said, “We had hoped the current education adviser would bring new thinking and fair solutions. But he has become a follower of the old policies. Instead of speaking directly with those who are protesting, he held secret meetings with some retired teacher leaders — which is completely unacceptable to us.”
He added, “We are now certain that the adviser himself is involved in a conspiracy to break this movement. However, we will not be provoked. We demand the implementation of our demands through peaceful protest.”
Teacher leader Delwar Hossain Azizi stated that teachers campaigning for nationalization have been staging a long-standing sit-in at Shaheed Minar. He complained that, rather than engaging directly with the protesters at the policy-making level, decisions are being made indirectly — an injustice to the movement participants.
The protesting teachers said they want the government to reach a fair solution quickly and for the education adviser to make decisions based on the real situation. Otherwise, they warned, they will announce larger actions on the streets.
