In a special operation conducted in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, the Coast Guard has arrested Abdul Ali (50), the leader of a long-active human trafficking ring. The operation took place on Sunday (October 12) afternoon in the Jumma Para area of Baharchhara.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque, the media officer for the Coast Guard, stated that based on secret information, the Coast Guard Outpost in Baharchhara and the Teknaf Station jointly carried out the operation and arrested Abdul Ali, a key suspect in several human trafficking cases.

During initial interrogation, Abdul Ali confessed that under his leadership, a group had been enticing and kidnapping Rohingya and local Bangladeshi citizens for a long time. The group would later traffick these individuals to countries in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, in exchange for large sums of money.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque added, “The arrested individual has several cases against him. He has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal proceedings. The Coast Guard’s intelligence surveillance and operations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking ring.”

Local authorities have reported an increase in human trafficking activities along the Teknaf coastline in recent times. As a result, the Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations and has heightened surveillance, particularly in areas along the Myanmar border, to prevent trafficking and enhance security.
