Mujibur Rahman Monju has said that without major reforms in the country’s existing political system, public expectations will not be fulfilled. He said that family-based leadership, concentration of power, and old political culture have made it difficult for the public to distinguish between major parties.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a political workshop organized by Amar Bangladesh Party in Feni city on Friday afternoon.
Monju said that people will evaluate political parties based on real experiences, especially issues like corruption, party influence, political violence, and rising commodity prices. He warned that if people do not see expected changes even after recent mass movements, frustration may grow among them.
He further said that the old political structure still exists, making it difficult for new political forces to emerge. However, he claimed that interest in new political trends is increasing based on recent electoral experiences.
On elections and reforms, he said they had earlier supported state reform before elections, but major political parties are now moving toward early elections. According to him, effective reforms could have prevented many influential candidates from participating.
He alleged that the current system favors old political forces, and therefore structural political reform is necessary.
The workshop was chaired by Aflatun Baki and conducted by Fazlul Haque.
Speeches were also delivered by Shah Alam and Ahsan Ullah.
Leaders including Nazrul Islam, Shah Alam Shahin Sultani, Mir Iqbal, Nazrana Hafiz, and Shafiullah Parvez were present along with leaders from various units of the party.
