4 Firefighters Burned in Tongi Chemical Warehouse Fire, 2 Suffer 100% Burns PNN News Desk | Dhaka:

On Monday afternoon, a fire broke out at a chemical storage warehouse inside the semi-permanent tin-shed godown of Sahara Market in Tongi, leaving four fire service personnel injured. Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon of the Emergency Department at the National Burn Institute, reported that two firefighters suffered burns over 100% of their bodies, including their airways. Another firefighter sustained burns over 42% of his body, while the fourth was burned over 5%.

Talha Bin Jasim, officer of the Fire Service Media Cell, said that while extinguishing the fire, sodium-based chemicals stored in the warehouse exploded, causing injuries to the firefighters. The injured were admitted to the burn units of the National Burn Institute and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Among the injured, Shamim Ahmed and Nurul Huda are in critical condition and will be discharged after initial treatment if stable. Inspector Khandakar Jannatul Naim’s condition is reported as severe.
