Wrestling fans around the world are mourning the loss of one of the sport’s greatest icons. Legendary professional wrestler Hulk Hogan — real name Terry Bollea — has passed away at the age of 71 following a heart attack, according to a confirmed statement by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
In an official release, WWE said,
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Hulk Hogan. He played a pivotal role in bringing WWE to a global platform during the 1980s.”
Police in Clearwater, Florida, reported that emergency services responded to a cardiac emergency at Hogan’s residence and transported him to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
During the "Golden Era" of the 1980s, Hulk Hogan was the face of WWE. With his iconic catchphrases like “Say your prayers and eat your vitamins” and his famous "24-inch pythons" — referring to his massive arms — Hogan became a household name across the globe.
He was not only a wrestling superstar but also a cultural icon, appearing in films, television, and commercials, helping professional wrestling achieve mainstream popularity.
Despite his fame, Hogan’s career wasn’t without controversy. In 2015, he faced backlash after a leaked video revealed racially insensitive comments, leading to a temporary separation from WWE. Additionally, he won a highly publicized lawsuit against Gawker Media over a leaked private video, resulting in a $115 million verdict that contributed to the media company’s bankruptcy.
Regardless of the controversies, Hulk Hogan will be remembered as a trailblazer in sports entertainment. His charisma, unmatched presence, and larger-than-life persona helped shape the modern era of professional wrestling.
Fans, fellow wrestlers, and public figures, including former U.S. President Donald Trump — with whom Hogan had appeared during political campaigns — have begun sharing tributes to the wrestling legend.
As the world bids farewell to Hulk Hogan, his legacy lives on in the memories of millions who grew up watching him slam giants and inspire a generation.
