Ahead of the FIFA World Cup knockout stage match against reigning champions Argentina, Cape Verde is filled with confidence. The country’s President José Maria Neves has predicted a direct victory.

In an interview with BBC, Neves said he believes Cape Verde can defeat Argentina 1–0 and create history.

He said, “I believe we will win 1–0. We will enter the field only with the goal of victory.”

He added that when expectations are low but the desire to win is strong, even the impossible becomes possible.

Cape Verde, a nation with fewer than 550,000 people, is participating in the World Cup finals for the first time. In their debut appearance, they advanced to the knockout stage after performing impressively in a tough group featuring Uruguay, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.

The President believes the match against Argentina is a natural progression for their journey.

He added that the team will face Argentina and Lionel Messi with the same mentality and determination to reach the next round.

The match will take place on July 4 at Rock Garden Stadium in Miami, USA, where fans eagerly await the clash between the reigning world champions and the tournament’s surprise package.
