The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved eight pilot programs for testing future electric aircraft technology in the United States. Participating companies include Archer Aviation, Beta Technologies, Joby Aviation, and Wisk Aero.

The three-year program spans 26 states, aiming to advance electric aircraft for personal travel, regional transport, cargo, and emergency medical services. The program is called Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot Program, announced last year under an executive order by President Donald Trump.

eVTOL aircraft can take off and land vertically like helicopters. They are envisioned for urban air taxi services. Commercial deployment requires rigorous FAA approval, but these pilot programs allow early experimental operation.

Experts predict the project could inaugurate a new era of rapid urban air mobility.
