The story of struggle behind laughter: Rajpal Yadav

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been entertaining audiences for a long time. His screen presence is known for unique comedy and lively acting. However, in a recent conversation, he shared that behind the laughter lies long practice, character analysis, and continuous learning.

Speaking about his long professional relationship with director Priyadarshan, Rajpal said that over time their understanding has deepened. According to him, working together for a long period creates a chemistry that is difficult to express in words. He said working with Priyadarshan has continuously taught him new things.

According to the actor, comedy is not an easy subject. It must come naturally from within. He said that without proper timing, body language, and subtle use of emotion, good comedy is not possible. In his words, “Entertainment is not just laughter or tears; it is a kind of science that must be understood and mastered.”

He mentioned Charlie Chaplin, Govinda, Rajinikanth, and Jackie Chan as his favorite comedians, describing their performances as “extraordinary creativity.”

Rajpal Yadav also expressed his desire not to be limited only to comedy roles. He said he wants to establish himself in serious roles as well, while maintaining a balance between audience expectations and his artistic identity.

He also remembered directors Ram Gopal Varma and David Dhawan for their contribution to his career, saying they experimented with him in various roles, many of which were successful, such as “Chup Chup Ke,” “Malamal Weekly,” and “Dhol.”

Defining comedy, he said he looks for dialogues that make audiences of all ages—children, youth, and elderly—laugh together. He does not consider vulgarity as part of good comedy.

At the end of the conversation, Rajpal Yadav said, “The one who continues to learn like a student survives in art. If you lose the mindset of learning, it is not possible to move forward.”
