Teenage boy’s suicide in Tahirpur linked to drug and online gambling addiction allegations

A teenage boy named Aminul Islam has committed suicide in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj. Family members claim that he took his own life after failing to get money for drugs and online gambling.

On Monday afternoon, police recovered his body from Chanpur border village under North Badal Union in Tahirpur police station area. The body was sent to Sunamganj District Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The deceased Aminul Islam was the son of Tajul Islam from the village.

Police and local sources said that family members found him hanging from a rope in the house in the morning. Police later recovered the body after being informed.

On Tuesday, the victim’s elder brother Sohail said that for nearly two years Aminul had been involved with yaba use and online gambling through association with local youths, which often caused conflicts within the family.

Family members claim that he took his own life due to frustration after not receiving money for drugs and gambling.

Officer Saiful Islam said the incident has initially been recorded as an unnatural death, and investigation is ongoing.
