At Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), disciplinary action has been taken against two teachers, two officials, and eight students due to allegations of various irregularities and breaches of discipline. Additionally, one official has been permanently dismissed. The students have been expelled from their halls and barred from entering the campus.

These decisions were made on Friday (15 August) afternoon at the 108th meeting of the Regent Board, held in the conference room of the university’s administrative building. Other important decisions included the provision of fellowships for postgraduate students, upgrades for officials and staff, construction of a new gate, the launch of an Accreditation Research Cell, and the closure of unauthorized Facebook pages.

According to Regent Board sources, Dr. Firoz Kabir, Assistant Professor of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (PTR) Department, was temporarily suspended for mismanagement and disorganized behavior towards students. Dr. Oshikur Rahman, Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department, was also temporarily suspended for traveling abroad for a postdoctoral program without authorization.

Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf, Deputy Director of the Planning, Development, and Works (PND) Department, and Md. Shafiul Alam, Assistant Engineer of the Engineering Department, were temporarily suspended as well. Helalul Islam has been permanently dismissed according to university regulations.

Students were also punished. Four student leaders of Chhatra League were expelled from their hall and barred from campus for assaulting journalist Shihab Uddin in 2022. Another four students received the same punishment for involvement in a case of abducting a job applicant for a lift operator position.

The board also approved the launch of research fellowships. Master’s students participating in the two-year program will receive a monthly stipend of 2,500–3,000 BDT for 12–18 months, provided they have published at least one research paper.

Additionally, the Accreditation Research Cell and Innovation-Startup Support Cell have been launched. Recommendations for three official promotions and four staff upgrades were accepted, and the university’s unauthorized Facebook pages and groups were ordered to be closed within a week.

Through these decisions, the Regent Board aims to maintain discipline, address irregularities, and ensure the safety of students at the university.
