ChatGPT continues to be highly popular among mobile device users. Since its launch in May 2023, the iOS and Android apps of ChatGPT have generated over $2 billion in global consumer spending, according to app intelligence firm Appfigures.
By comparison, the combined revenue of Cloud, Copilot, and Grok accounts for only about one-thirty-first of ChatGPT’s achievement. From January to July 2025, ChatGPT’s mobile app alone earned $1.35 billion, a 667% increase compared to $197 million during the same period last year. The average monthly revenue now stands at approximately $139 million, up significantly from $25 million in 2024.
Revenue per download is also notable. Globally, ChatGPT earns $2.91 per download, compared with $2.55 for Cloud, $0.57 for Grok, and $0.18 for Copilot. In the United States, revenue per download is even higher at $10, accounting for 38% of total revenue. Germany is the second-largest market, contributing 5.3% of total revenue.
In terms of downloads, ChatGPT’s dominance is even clearer. Globally, the app has been downloaded 690 million times, while Grok has only 149.5 million downloads. In 2025 alone, ChatGPT has already been downloaded 318 million times, nearly 2.8 times more than the same period last year. By country, India leads with 13.7% of total downloads, followed by the United States with 10.3%.
This data shows that ChatGPT remains far ahead of other AI-powered chatbots on mobile devices, even though revenue from other platforms and APIs is also important for the company. Users primarily discover and subscribe to these AI assistant apps through mobile app stores.
ChatGPT’s dominance demonstrates that while competition among AI apps in the mobile market remains fierce, ChatGPT continues to maintain user trust and retain its leading position.
