Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has raised $11 billion in its latest funding round, according to a report by Bloomberg. Based on the investment, the company has been valued at $1.25 trillion.

Bloomberg published the information on Friday (November 6), citing people familiar with the matter. According to the report, the $11 billion raised so far is part of a much larger fundraising effort. The round has not yet been finalised and could be completed within the next few weeks. One source said the total amount raised could reach approximately $20 billion.

In late September, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI had set a target of raising $30 billion in its new funding round. However, the amount secured so far remains below that target.

Technology news outlet TechCrunch contacted OpenAI for comment, but the company had not issued an official response by the time the report was published.

Just hours after news of OpenAI’s fundraising emerged, fresh information also surfaced about the potential valuation of another major AI company, Anthropic. In a separate report, Bloomberg said that some investors interested in purchasing shares in Anthropic were considering offers substantially below the valuation the company had been seeking.

According to the report, some prospective investors believe Anthropic’s valuation could fall to $1.1 trillion. This is a significant shift from expectations just a month earlier, when investors anticipated that the company’s valuation could reach $2 trillion.

The developments have raised fresh questions about the future valuations of major companies in the AI industry and the investment climate surrounding the sector.

OpenAI had indicated earlier this year that it might go public, but later postponed the plan. The company is now believed to be considering an initial public offering (IPO) sometime in 2027, a possibility also highlighted in a recent Reuters report.

Although the global AI market continues to expand rapidly, investment conditions in the sector have become somewhat uncertain in recent months. The Democrats’ major victory in the United States midterm elections, along with voters’ growing negative perceptions of data centres, has created new concerns for the technology industry.

Analysts fear that increasing political pressure over the environmental impact of data centres, their electricity consumption and their expansion into local communities could expose AI companies to additional regulatory obstacles in the future. Such developments could affect investment, infrastructure expansion and the valuation of companies operating in the sector.

Overall, OpenAI’s latest fundraising demonstrates strong investor interest in the AI industry. However, uncertainty surrounding the valuation of rival companies and the changing political climate in the United States are making the sector’s future investment environment increasingly complicated.
