Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has once again assured that the festival allowance for private MPO-registered teachers will be increased to the equivalent of their basic salary. He said the government is working to raise the current 50 percent festival allowance to 100 percent.

He made this statement as the chief guest at an event on Tuesday (14 April). The event was attended by Public Administration State Minister Md. Abdul Bari and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, among other officials.

The Education Minister said that in the past, teachers’ allowances had been gradually increased, and now it is time to make it fully equal. He mentioned that the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will play an important role in implementing this initiative.

He further said that the government is sincere in fulfilling teachers’ long-standing demands and will take effective steps to solve existing problems in the education sector. He emphasized improving education quality and enhancing teachers’ dignity as government priorities.

Referring to historical context, the minister said that Ziaur Rahman played an important role in introducing salary and allowance facilities for teachers. Later, during Khaleda Zia’s tenure, various welfare initiatives for teachers were also taken and gradually expanded.

He also emphasized coordinated development of education, agriculture, and health sectors, saying that the development of these three sectors is essential for national progress.

If implemented, this initiative to increase financial benefits for teachers is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector.
