Strict Stance Against Political Influence in Banking, Measures to Recover Smuggled Funds

Bangladesh Bank Governor Mostakur Rahman stated that political interference in the banking sector will not be tolerated in the future.

Speaking at an exchange with electronic media journalists in Dhaka on Wednesday, he discussed challenges posed to the economy due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The Governor said agreements with 10 institutions to repatriate smuggled funds are nearly 80% complete. This initiative aims to restore order in the country’s financial sector.

During the meeting, issues such as fuel crises, foreign currency reserves, and economic stability were highlighted. Measures to stabilize the economy include promoting production sectors, supporting SMEs, and strengthening agriculture to reduce import dependence. Authorities are also working to quickly return depositors’ funds from banks and non-bank financial institutions.
