Sindus was playing with other children on the first floor of the wedding hall, dressed in new clothes, enjoying the celebration. Suddenly, he fell to the ground. Panic spread among guests on the second floor, and some were also shot. The bride, groom, and other attendees were stunned, and the wedding stopped abruptly.
Sindus’s elder sister Maria said, “Sindus was lying on the ground, unresponsive.” His mother ran to the first floor, but only found blood. Later, a phone call from his brother informed them, “We are at Baptist Hospital [Al-Ahli Arab Hospital], come quickly.”
At the hospital, Sindus’s face was covered in blood, with makeup and new clothes soaked. Nurses informed that two bullets had entered his head, damaging parts of his brain.
Sindus was moved to the ICU. After three hours of surgery, his left side remained paralyzed. He regained consciousness two days later but could neither see nor use his left side. Limited hospital resources made his treatment extremely difficult.
The family claims the Israeli sniper deliberately targeted Sindus, which constitutes a war crime under international law. The child is now receiving treatment at Al-Shifa Hospital while sitting in a chair.
Family members alleged, “Even after shooting Sindus, the international community and media have not provided adequate response or medical care.”
This attack during a ceasefire raises serious concerns about the safety of children in Gaza.
