Press Secretary to BNP Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam said that the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country will have a positive impact on Bangladeshi politics. He stated that there is currently a political vacuum in the country, which Tarique Rahman’s return will help fill.
Speaking to journalists at the Holy Jopmala Rani Church in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Thursday (Christmas Day), Shafiqul Alam said that after 17 years in exile, Tarique Rahman’s return is significant for national politics. He referred to Tarique as the leader of one of the country’s largest political parties, whose return is naturally expected to have a positive effect.
Regarding the upcoming national elections, he said Bangladesh is currently undergoing a democratic transition, which Tarique Rahman’s return will further facilitate.
On questions about Tarique Rahman’s security, Shafiqul Alam said the BNP is ensuring his protection, and the government is providing cooperation as requested by the party.
While exchanging greetings with the Christian community on Christmas, he emphasized that Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, and all citizens should be able to celebrate their religious festivals safely and joyfully.
