Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit China from May 19 to 20, according to the Kremlin. During the visit, he will discuss bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, and economic partnership with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Kremlin said both leaders will focus on expanding “comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” between Moscow and Beijing. Putin will also meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss economic and trade cooperation.

The visit marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

Analysts say Russia–China relations have deepened in recent years. Although not a formal military alliance, their political and economic cooperation is very close.

Before the Ukraine war in 2022, both countries declared a “no limits partnership,” which has become more significant after Western sanctions.

China has denied allegations of supporting Russia’s military industry, while Russia has called Western sanctions discriminatory and strengthened ties with Beijing.

The visit is seen as an important step in strengthening the Moscow–Beijing partnership.
