The post-election press conference was held on Saturday afternoon at Intercontinental Hotel, Dhaka, attended by domestic and international journalists.
Tarique Rahman emphasized that national unity is the country’s greatest strength. He called for resolving differences through dialogue and cooperation, not conflict. He thanked party members for celebrating peacefully and instructed them to remain disciplined and prudent moving forward.
He added that all must work together to meet the expectations of the people. He also expressed gratitude to the caretaker government and the Election Commission for conducting a fair and peaceful election.
According to the declared results, BNP won 209 of 297 seats. In the two constituencies with pending results—Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4—BNP candidates are leading. The party’s allies won three seats. Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, and other members of its 11-party alliance secured nine seats. Islami Andolan Bangladesh won one seat, and independent candidates won seven. Tarique Rahman concluded by stating that respecting the people’s mandate and acting responsibly will be the new government’s primary pledge.
