Western Marine Shipyard, a leading shipbuilding and exporting company in Bangladesh, has once again achieved a major international export. On Thursday (20 November), three landing crafts—Maya, SMS Amy, and Muna—built on the banks of the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram will be delivered to UAE-based Marwan & Trading Co. LLC.
According to the company, the ships were fully customized to meet the client’s specifications for offshore supply, cargo transport, and maritime trade. After formal handover, the ships will depart for the UAE.
The landing crafts are 69 meters long, 16 meters wide, with a draft of 3 meters. Built according to Bureau Veritas classification standards, they can travel at 10 knots and offer around 700 square meters of clear deck space suitable for heavy machinery and bulk cargo.
The vessels are equipped with two Yanmar main engines, electro-hydraulic ramp winches, 24mm steel wire ropes, advanced anchoring and hydraulic steering systems, along with Simrad S3009 echo sounders, Furuno GP-39 GPS, Navitron NT-8886 autopilot, radar, and international-standard communication equipment.
Captain Sohel Hasan, Managing Director of Western Marine, said, “The demand for Bangladeshi ships in the international market is increasing again. Delivering these three landing crafts is not just a business success but a positive signal for the entire shipbuilding industry. We already have more projects underway, including two oil tankers and additional landing crafts for Marwan Shipping.”
