New IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir assumes office with guard of honor

Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir took office on Wednesday morning. Upon arrival at Police Headquarters, he was received with a guard of honor by a well-decorated police contingent. He succeeded outgoing IGP Baharul Alam.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Tuesday appointing Md. Ali Hossain Fakir as IGP. The new IGP joined the Bangladesh Police on November 15, 1995, as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the 153rd BCS (Police) batch.

Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has served in various units of Bangladesh Police with integrity, efficiency, and professionalism. He has worked as Superintendent of Police in Netrokona, Feni, and Magura districts. He has also served as Commandant of RRF Sylhet and as commander of the 3rd, 5th, and 7th APBN units.

He represented Bangladesh Police in UN peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and the Ivory Coast. He has held the position of Acting President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association, General Secretary of the 15th BCS Forum, and is associated with various socio-cultural organizations.

For his education, he earned a BBA (Honors), M.Com, and MBA degrees in Management from the University of Dhaka. Md. Ali Hossain Fakir was born on April 5, 1968, in a prominent Muslim family in Bagerhat district. He is married and has one son and one daughter.
