Netflix is set to lose creators of its popular series

Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things may soon part ways with its creators, the Duffer Brothers. Matt and Ross Duffer, who conceived, wrote, and directed numerous episodes of the show, are currently in talks to sign an exclusive deal with Paramount.

According to Hollywood outlets like Variety, the Duffer Brothers have already decided to join Paramount. Their focus now is on producing big-budget films, which poses a challenge for Netflix. The streaming platform has struggled to maintain long-term relationships in the theatrical business, a point recently described as an “outdated concept” by its co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

A key condition for the Duffer Brothers was the opportunity for theatrical releases. Moving to Paramount will allow them to work on large-scale film projects, an opportunity that is limited on Netflix.

However, the final season of Stranger Things on Netflix will still be released in three parts, featuring contributions from the Duffer Brothers. Additionally, two of their new shows are set to premiere on Netflix in 2026. The Stranger Things brand is also expanding, with a prequel on Broadway, an upcoming animated series, and a live-action spinoff in development.

This shift means Netflix’s flagship series will face a new creative direction, while Paramount gains the Duffer Brothers for major-budget projects.
