The National Citizens Party (NCP) formally launched its campaign for the 13th national parliamentary election by commemorating historical leaders and martyrs. On Thursday morning, members visited the graves of A.K. Fazlul Huq, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and recently martyred Inquilab Manch leader Sharif Osman bin Hadi in Dhaka’s Doyel Chattar area.
Afterward, NCP leader Nahid Islam led a “March for Justice” procession, starting around 12:45 PM, passing through Shahbagh Mor, beside Ramna Park, and ending in front of the National Press Club. Central leaders and candidates from Dhaka-8, Dhaka-9, and Dhaka-20 participated, along with some local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami as part of the 10-party alliance.
Nahid Islam told journalists that the NCP draws inspiration for a just governance system from the ideals of Fazlul Huq and Suhrawardy. He highlighted the party’s commitment to justice for Sharif Osman bin Hadi’s assassination and its fight against feudalism and fascist systems.
The march was lively with slogans urging voters to elect NCP and the 10-party alliance candidates under the Shapla Kali symbol. Nahid also criticized the election commission for bias, stating a particular party is being given undue advantages.
The NCP leader urged citizens to honor the sacrifices of martyrs and vote for NCP and alliance candidates in the February 12 elections.
