PNN News Desk | Dhaka:

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has directed the field-level tax regions to strengthen the activities of their Intelligence and Investigation Cells (IIC) to prevent tax evasion and increase revenue collection. The directive, issued by the Member of Tax Audit, Intelligence, and Investigation of NBR, provides detailed guidelines for each tax region regarding team formation, operational procedures, proposal drafting, and committee approval processes for recovering evaded taxes.

The directive states that various types of intelligence information, allegations of tax evasion, data published in print and electronic media, income tax records, and discrepancies in different registries—including unusual tax-exempt income, taxable income, and net asset declarations—should be brought under investigation.

Once accurate data is obtained, the respective team will submit a report to the Intelligence and Investigation Committee for tax recovery. If the evidence of tax evasion is confirmed, the committee will authorize legal action.

Each tax region has been instructed to submit data on a monthly basis so that detailed information regarding additional claims and collections can be provided to the NBR. The board expects that these measures will help recover evaded revenue, reduce tax evasion tendencies, and foster a fair and transparent tax culture.
