Mysterious Death of University Student and Mother in Cumilla, Investigation Underway

A student of Cumilla University (CU), Sumaiya Akter, and her mother Tahmin Begum were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their home. The Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohinul Islam, confirmed the incident on Monday (8 September).

The incident occurred around 11:30 PM at their residence in Kaliajuri, Cumilla city. According to the victim’s brother, he visited the house around 11 PM and noticed the room door was open. Initially, he thought it might have been left open by mistake. However, upon entering the room, he discovered the bodies of his mother and sister and immediately called the police via 999.

OC Mohinul Islam said, “Upon inspecting the scene, we found no visible marks of injury on the bodies. This could be a premeditated murder, but a definite conclusion will be possible only after investigation. The bodies have been sent to the morgue. No written complaint has been received yet. Appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation.”

CU Proctor, Professor Dr. Abdul Hakim, stated that the university administration is looking into the matter and will take necessary measures as required.
