Middle East’s first NVIDIA AI Technology Center inaugurated in Abu Dhabi

The Middle East’s first NVIDIA AI Technology Center has officially started operations in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The research lab was established as a joint initiative between the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and US-based NVIDIA, TII announced in a statement on Monday.

The laboratory will focus on developing next-generation artificial intelligence models and advanced robotics platforms. Practical innovations will be tested experimentally across multiple sectors, including transportation, logistics, climate, energy, and genomics.

TII CEO Nazwa Araji stated that the initiative will employ the ‘Thor chip’ for the first time, which will play a key role in building advanced robotic systems. The institute is already working on humanoid robots, four-legged robots, and robotic arms.

TII is the research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council, which aims to position the country as a global AI leader. In recent years, the UAE has made substantial investments in the sector and has sought to strengthen technological cooperation with the United States.

Discussions for the joint research lab began almost a year ago. Experts from both sides will work at the center, and new staff will also be recruited for the project, TII stated.
