On the occasion of the historic 'July Uprising Day', a huge crowd has gathered today at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. Defying heavy rain, streams of people from all corners of Dhaka have turned the rally into a public festival. At 5 PM, Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will read the ‘July Declaration’ at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.
From early morning, Manik Mia Avenue became vibrant with slogans and people draped in national flags. Inspired by a spirit of resistance, many marched towards the stage holding umbrellas, carrying flags on their shoulders, and wearing badges on their chests despite the rain.
Young protester Rabiul said, “Not rain, even bullets can’t stop us. July is the symbol of our struggle.” Private employee Sohan stated, “July is a question of our soul. We won’t leave the stage of protest until the charter is implemented.”
To mark the day, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has organized the event, managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and supported by the National Parliament Secretariat. The daylong program includes cultural performances and discussions.
According to the schedule:
At 11:20 AM, Islamic songs were performed by Saimum Shilpigosthi.
At 11:40 AM, Kolorob performed.
At 12:05 PM, a speech was delivered by Nahid Islam.
At 12:30 PM, singer Tashfi performed.
After the prayer break, the stage welcomed performances by Chattogram’s ‘Hip Hop Hood’, artist Sezan, and the band Shunno.
At 2:25 PM, a segment titled “Moment of the Fascist’s Fall” was commemorated, followed by a resumption of the concert. One by one, popular performers like Sayan, Ethun Babu and Mausumi, Souls, and Warfaze took the stage. A break was taken for Asr prayer at 4:45 PM.
The day’s main event—Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus reading the ‘July Declaration’—will begin right after. His verified Facebook page had already announced the reading would take place at 5 PM on August 5.
Representatives from all political parties, family members of martyrs, and wounded fighters will be present during the reading of the declaration.
With participation from children, teenagers, youth, and the elderly from across the country, the historic ‘36th July’ has transformed into a symbol of national unity.
