Manchester City’s Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has set a new record in the Champions League. On Thursday night, by scoring against Napoli, Haaland reached the 50-goal milestone in just 49 matches. This is the fastest any player has reached 50 goals in Champions League history.
Previously, the record was held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored 50 goals in 62 matches. Lionel Messi reached the milestone in 66 matches, and Cristiano Ronaldo took 92 matches. Haaland’s achievement has also surpassed Kylian Mbappe, cementing his place in the record books.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said, “The numbers speak for themselves. We are fortunate to have him in the squad. To see Haaland’s name alongside Van Nistelrooy, Lewandowski, Cristiano, and Messi is incredible.” He also expressed hope that Haaland could break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 140 Champions League goals.
Haaland’s remarkable form continues; he has been scoring consistently for both Norway and his club in recent matches. With a 2-0 win over Napoli, Manchester City has kicked off their new European campaign on a strong note.
