At an event organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the High Commissioner mentioned that visa procedures have been simplified. Now, with joint recommendations from LCCI and the Honorary Consulate of Bangladesh in Lahore, visas are issued to members within 3–4 days, facilitating travel for businesspeople from both countries.
He highlighted trade opportunities: Pakistan can export rice to Bangladesh, while Bangladesh can supply fresh pineapples to Pakistan. There is also significant potential in the textile and ready-made garments sectors.
The High Commissioner added that a direct cargo shipping service between the two countries will start soon. Due to rising demand for the cargo service launched last December, a separate direct route has become necessary.
In education, the Pakistan Higher Education Commission will soon send representatives from 12 universities to Bangladesh, providing more opportunities for Bangladeshi students to study in Pakistan. He also emphasized shared tourism, culture, history, and values, noting that Bangladesh and Pakistan form a closely connected community.
LCCI President Fahimur Rahman Saigol said Pakistan can increase rice exports to Bangladesh and Bangladesh can learn from Pakistan’s garment industry. Both sides see potential for joint initiatives in IT, automotive, and other sectors.
Currently, bilateral trade between the two countries is about $700 million, with prospects to reach $3 billion in the coming years. The launch of direct flights is expected to further boost trade. Saigol plans to visit Dhaka soon at the High Commissioner’s invitation.
