Students of Kishoreganj University (temporary campus at Gurudoyal Government College) staged a protest from 11:45 PM on Thursday, August 21, demanding the establishment of a permanent campus. The overnight demonstration continued until 2:00 AM.
The incident began in the evening when Assistant Proctor Md. Sohanul Islam shared a notice on the official WhatsApp group of the university’s proctorial body, signed by Registrar Naila Yasmin. The notice stated that under the National University regulations, Section 144 would be enforced during the ongoing first-year honors examinations. As a result, the main gate of the university would remain closed, no vehicles would be allowed to enter the campus, and only limited partial access would be granted for essential purposes.
The notice sparked widespread anger among the students, who believed that such a decision would severely disrupt their classes, exams, and academic activities.
Md. Yashin, a student of the Accounting Department (2021–22 session), said, “The temporary campus has become a curse for us. If classes and exams are postponed due to exams, we will not be able to complete the semester on time.”
Fahim Muttakin Patwari, a student of the Mathematics Department, said, “We are not receiving even basic facilities. There is a shortage of classrooms, no labs, no playground, and limited medical facilities. Running a full-fledged university is impossible without a permanent campus. This is the only solution to our problems.”
Shafiul Muznibin, a student of the CSE Department, criticized the administration, saying, “In a year, the administration has not communicated directly with the students. Their negligence has forced us to boycott classes, labs, and exams. Today’s protest reflects that frustration.”
The students have announced that their movement demanding a permanent campus will continue. They stated that new programs will start from Sunday and will persist until their demands are met.
