Jatiyatabadi Jubodal has alleged that the names of three accused provided by the family were dropped from the First Information Report (FIR) of the brutal murder of scrap dealer Lal Chand Sohag (39) in front of Mitford Hospital, and three new names were included instead.
Jubodal President Abdul Monaem Munna questioned why the main perpetrators, who were identified in video footage, have not been arrested even after 60 hours have passed since the incident. He raised these allegations and questions at a press conference held at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday morning. In addition to Jubodal, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal also participated.
At the press conference, Munna stated:
"We want to know who and why these three accused were dropped and three new ones were added. It is a great mystery that those who inflicted the fatal blows and were seen in the CCTV footage were, surprisingly, not made the main accused in the case."
He said the incident was widely publicized two days later, on Friday, and demanded to find out who was behind it.
Munna confirmed that Lal Chand's niece, Bithi Akter, had assured them that the three individuals named by the family were indeed removed from the FIR.
Without denying responsibility for the murder, the Jubodal president said, "When an incident occurs, we take organizational measures based on evidence. Yesterday, five people involved in this incident were expelled." He then questioned, "Has the administration taken appropriate legal or administrative action against them? If not, we want to know why."
Abdul Monaem Munna also commented on the overall deterioration of the country's law and order situation. Referring to several recent incidents, he said:
"Yesterday, an expelled Jubodal leader was shot and had his veins slit in Khulna."
"In Chandpur, an Imam was also attacked in the same manner while delivering a sermon."
He alleged that killing by slitting veins is a long-standing political practice of a "specific organization" and that they were involved in both these incidents.
Munna further stated that due to administrative failure, the law and order situation is currently in disarray. He alleged that an "opportunistic special group" is making politically motivated, vulgar statements against BNP and its affiliated organizations by selectively protesting.
Jubodal General Secretary Nurul Islam, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin, and Swechchhasebak Dal President S.M. Zilani and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan were also present at the press conference.
