Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba has announced his retirement from professional football. On Tuesday night (October 7), Alba shared a video message on his official Instagram account, saying, “Truly, it is time to close a meaningful chapter of my life. I have decided to bid farewell to professional football at the end of the season.”
His announcement drew emotional reactions from longtime teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. During their time together at Barcelona, Alba and Messi won five La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, and one Champions League title.
In his video message, Messi wrote, “Thank you, Jordi. I will miss you so much. After so many years playing together, it will feel strange not seeing you on the left. How many goals have you assisted me with? Who will pass to me now?”
Meanwhile, Luis Suárez at Inter Miami commented, “You are an amazing person. Enjoy the next chapter.”
Alba stated that this is the right moment to start a new chapter and spend more time with his family. Having retired from international football in 2023, Alba expressed happiness playing for Inter Miami and gratitude for being part of the team’s success.
So far, Alba has played 95 matches for Inter Miami, scoring 14 goals and providing 28 assists. Notably, his former teammate Sergio Busquets has also announced his retirement at the end of this MLS season.
