In Real Life, Romantic Aamir Khan Opens Up About Love and Relationships

Answering a question at the event, Aamir said, “Who isn’t romantic in real life? Show me someone who isn’t. Everyone is romantic, and I am very romantic.” He then spoke about three significant relationships in his life—Reena Dutt, Kiran Rao, and his current partner Gauri Shpratt. According to him, these three people have enriched his life.

Aamir married Reena Dutt at just 21 years old in 1986. Both were at the very beginning of their lives at the time. They shared the uncertainties of their careers, dreams for the future, and the struggles of reality together. They have two children, Junaid and Ira. Aamir said his relationship with Reena was built on friendship, respect, and mutual understanding.

From a child actor to becoming one of Bollywood’s most influential stars, Aamir’s journey was not easy. Early in his career, he faced several unsuccessful films. Yet, these failures made him more cautious, thoughtful, and unique. Through films like Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Dangal, and PK, he carved a distinctive place for himself.

However, in pursuit of career success, he admits to certain personal regrets. He mentioned that not being able to spend enough time with family still haunts him.

After his divorce from Reena, he married Kiran Rao in 2005. This relationship too was based on mutual respect and creative understanding. They have one child, Azad. Though they decided to separate in 2021, they have stated that their friendship remains intact. Aamir said, “We may have separated as husband and wife, but not as human beings.”

After two long marriages, Aamir thought love would not enter his life again. But this year, on his birthday, he introduced his new partner, Gauri Shpratt. He said Gauri has brought peace and balance into his life. Aamir remarked, “I never imagined love would come again, but Gauri has brought a kind of calm into my life.”

Most notably, this new relationship has not caused conflict with his past relationships. According to Aamir, Reena, Kiran, Gauri, and their families now form one big family.

Reflecting on his life, Aamir said, “My marriages didn’t succeed twice, but meeting these three people is the greatest fortune of my life.” His life story encompasses success, mistakes, heartbreak, and the courage to start over.
