Hollywood’s beloved actress and style icon Diane Keaton has passed away. She died at the age of 79 at her home in California on Saturday (11/10/2025), leaving the film world in deep mourning.
Keaton first gained fame in the 1970s for her role as Kay Adams-Corleone in The Godfather series. She gradually cemented her position in the film industry with subsequent roles. Her performances in Father of the Bride, First Wives Club, and especially Annie Hall brought her international acclaim. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Annie Hall in 1978, marking the pinnacle of her career.
Alongside her acting, Keaton was also a celebrated fashion icon. Known for her menswear-inspired outfits, wide-brimmed hats, and infectious smile, she was regarded as one of Hollywood’s most influential style figures.
Keaton’s acting career spanned over five decades, featuring notable films such as The Family Stone, Play It Again, Sam, and Manhattan. She began her film career with Lovers and Other Strangers in 1970, and her final project was the 2024 movie Summer Camp, in which she starred alongside Eugene Levy and Kathy Bates.
In addition to acting, Keaton was a successful director. She directed the documentary Heaven in 1987 and her film Unstrung Heroes was selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section in 1995. In 2000, she directed and acted in Hanging Up.
Hollywood stars have expressed deep grief over Keaton’s passing. Her First Wives Club co-star Bette Midler wrote on Instagram, “A brilliant, talented, and truly original actress Diane Keaton is gone. This news has broken me. She was funny, warm, and genuine.” Actor Ben Stiller tweeted, “Diane Keaton was one of the greatest actresses in film history. Style, wit, humor—she was truly one of a kind.”
In her personal life, Keaton never married but adopted two children, a daughter Dexter and a son Duke. In her autobiography Then Again (2011), she wrote, “I am happiest when my loved ones are happy. I don’t think anyone else can experience such love.”
Diane Keaton’s death is an irreplaceable loss for film lovers. Her remarkable performances and timeless legacy will be remembered forever.
