Gold prices have increased again in Bangladesh’s market. Following a new price adjustment by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the price of 22-carat gold has risen to Tk 232,930 per bhori.

On Friday, the price of 22-carat gold was Tk 231,880 per bhori. Under the new rate, the price has increased by Tk 1,050 per bhori.

The new gold price was determined at a meeting of BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring at 9am on Saturday (September 12). A notice signed by the committee’s chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, said the new prices came into effect from 10am.

According to the BAJUS notice, the price of gold was adjusted after considering the overall market situation following an increase in the price of Tejabi gold, or pure gold, in both international and local markets.

Under the new price list, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 222,490 per bhori. Similarly, 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk 191,056 per bhori.

In addition, the price of gold jewellery made under the traditional method has been set at Tk 156,064 per bhori.

The latest decision by BAJUS has pushed gold prices in the country’s market up another step. As a result, customers planning to purchase gold jewellery for weddings and other social occasions may face additional financial pressure.
