France’s dream of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup final ended after a 2–0 defeat against Spain in the semi-final. However, French President Emmanuel Macron believes the defeat should not be seen as the end, but rather as part of the team’s preparation for future success.

He expressed confidence that the young French squad will return stronger in the coming years.

Following the semi-final match held at Dallas Stadium in the United States on Tuesday (July 14), Macron congratulated Spain for reaching the final through a message posted on social media platform X. At the same time, he praised the French players for giving their maximum effort for the national team.

In his message, the French president said Spain deserved its place in the final through its performance. He also expressed gratitude to the French team for defending the honour of the national jersey.

According to Macron, the defeat was undoubtedly painful, but the current team is young and has a bright future ahead.

Spain played attacking football from the beginning of the semi-final. The team overcame its previous struggles in front of goal and produced a strong performance in the important match.

Luis de la Fuente’s side dominated France for much of the game through organised defending, quick attacks, and better ball control.

In the first half, Spain earned a penalty after Lamine Yamal was fouled inside the penalty area. Mikel Oyarzabal converted the opportunity to give Spain the lead.

Later, full-back Pedro Porro doubled the advantage after receiving a brilliant through pass from Dani Olmo. Porro was also named the Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution in both attack and defence.

With this victory, Spain reached the World Cup final for the second time since 2010.

In the final scheduled for Sunday at the New York–New Jersey Stadium, Spain will face the winner of the second semi-final between Argentina and England.

Meanwhile, although their title dream has ended, French supporters remain hopeful about the young team built around Kylian Mbappe.

President Macron’s message reflected that hope, encouraging the team to move forward from today’s disappointment and focus on future achievements.
