On the first anniversary of the historic student-led mass uprising in July–August 2024, France has expressed strong solidarity with the people of Bangladesh. The French Embassy in Dhaka acknowledged August 5 as a significant turning point in Bangladesh’s democratic journey in an official statement posted on their Facebook page.
The statement noted,
“This day is dedicated to remembering the tragic events of July and August 2024. August 5 marked the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s history.” France reiterated its unwavering support for a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic future for Bangladesh.
This expression of support from France comes at a time when the United Kingdom, the European Union, and other international partners have also paid tribute to the martyrs of the movement and pledged continued assistance for democratic reforms under the interim government in Bangladesh.
The international support on this historic anniversary of Bangladesh’s democratic movement is expected to boost momentum for the ongoing political transformation in the country.
