Bollywood is always built on competition, discussions, and the rise and fall of stars. Recently, actress Mrunal Thakur has become the center of attention in such discussions. In a recent podcast interview, she revealed that she had turned down the offer to play the lead female role in Salman Khan’s hit film Sultan. The role eventually went to Anushka Sharma.
Mrunal commented, “The impact of films I haven’t been a part of on others varies. Sultan was a superhit, but the lead actress didn’t gain any special advantage from it. I wasn’t ready at the time, so I didn’t take it.” Although she did not directly mention any names, her remark was clearly aimed at Anushka Sharma’s debut.
Anushka Sharma made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and subsequently strengthened her position with a string of hit films and productions. Meanwhile, Mrunal’s journey has been comparatively slower. She has gained fame through the small screen and films but has not yet fully established herself among Bollywood’s top actresses.
Mrunal’s comments have quickly gone viral on social media. While Anushka Sharma’s fans have expressed anger, some have supported Mrunal’s perspective. Previously, Mrunal faced criticism for comments about Bipasha Basu’s body.
Analysts believe that competition among female stars in Bollywood is not new. However, recognition achieved through mockery or controversy is rarely lasting. Anushka Sharma has already proven herself, and Mrunal still has a significant opportunity to win audiences’ hearts through her work. It is not controversy, but her work that will mark her true success.
