Economic Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has cautioned revenue officials that tax collection should not be enforced through coercion or threats; instead, taxes will naturally increase as business and economic growth expand. He made these remarks on Thursday evening at a hotel in the capital during the “Milestone Celebration” event of the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) project under the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The Economic Adviser emphasized that the economy cannot progress without the development of the private sector. He stated that when businesses thrive, taxpayers will voluntarily pay taxes. He also noted that digitalization and service delivery are the main goals of the BSW project.
During the event, it was reported that from July to September, a total of 578,491 certificates, licenses, and permits were issued online through the BSW platform, of which 84% were completed within an hour and 95% within one day automatically.
Additionally, the top five e-return filers of the previous fiscal year were declared “Champions” for their exemplary compliance.
